INSURANCE
The clincian-patient relationship takes time, and it is the most important aspect of practice at FSP. That is why I operate on a fee-for-service basis. We are not not paneled with any commercial insurance companies; however, FSP is an “out-of-network provider,” which means patients can submit receipts for reimbursement by utilizing any out-of-network insurance benefits.
-
Many patients receive 30-80% reimbursement by their insurance plans.
-
FSP provides a comprehensive receipt, called a “super bill,” to submit directly to insurance companies after each appointment.
-
Please contact your insurance provider for coverage terms.
REIMBURSEMENT DETAIL
Insurance companies use two codes to determine what they will pay for a medical service: a diagnosis code that starts with a letter of the alphabet, and a billing code (CPT) for the specific type of visit. To help you check with your insurer about the rate of reimbursement included in your plan, here are typical diagnostic and billing code pairs used by FSP.
INSURANCE
We are considered out-of-network providers. You pay the practice for your session in full at the time of the session, and then you submit claims to seek reimbursement from your insurance company; however, services may be covered in whole or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Most clients that use their out-of-network coverage end up paying about the same or less than a copay. FSP will provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance online for reimbursement. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:
-
Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
-
Do I have out-of-network coverage?
-
What is my deductible, and has it been met?
-
How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
-
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
-
Is approval or prior authorization required from my primary care physician or the therapist?

If you have trouble reaching your therapist, please call us for assistance. Know that if you take these steps to make contact and an alternate plan as needed, there will be no cancellation fee should you need to cancel.
In contrast, if you do not show up (physically or virtually) without making contact, we will ask you to pay for your session time as booked.
Ever Wonder Why a Therapeutic Hour Is Not an Hour?
Have you ever wondered why therapy sessions typically last around 47-53 minutes? It's a standard practice, but let's dig deeper into whether it's really the best fit for everyone.
The 47-60-minute session has practical origins, allowing therapists to schedule back-to-back sessions while maintaining a structured day. However, research suggests that the effectiveness of therapy depends more on the consistency and quality of sessions than on their exact duration.
Different types of therapy have different time needs. For example, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) typically fits well within the 47-53 minute format, while Psychodynamic Therapy or EMDR may benefit from longer sessions to explore deeper emotional issues.
Insurance companies standardize the 35-53-minute session for billing and reimbursement, but this may not always align with what's best for you as a client. Flexibility in session duration can enhance the effectiveness of therapy and ensure that it is truly tailored to your needs.
